United Holding Group (“UHG”), which is also known as UHG I LLC, is a large, third-party debt collector based in upstate New York. As a third-party debt collector, UHG typically purchases sizeable pools of bad debt—consumer credit cards and loans, mainly—at steep discounts relative to the face value of the debt. UHG then takes “data files”—bits and pieces of consumer information, perhaps billing statements—related to the bad debt and sues the alleged debtors named in those data files. Because UHG is a third-party debt collector, the alleged debts underlying these lawsuits derived from credit issued by an original creditor, such as CashNetUSA or Credit One. UHG has filed well over 2,000 such lawsuits against Missouri consumers during 2022 alone. However, multiple Missouri residents have reported that they never even took out the debt alleged to them by UHG. Because of these reports, Bell Law, LLC, is investigating UHG’s debt-collection lawsuits in Missouri.
